Musical Dice -- Matching Chart Peaks And Numbered Groups

Welcome to the music section of my Musical Dice website! For you music trivia enthusiasts, and those who love to learn about the stories behind the music, you've come to the right place! I love sharing my knowledge of music trivia, so that's why I created this section.

Some topics for this blog, I would never have thought of on my own. Today's topic is definitely one such topic. What inspired this topic was one time when I was listening to American Top 40 in the summer of 1990, Shadoe Stevens had mentioned the song "Ready Or Not" by After 7, which had started falling, after peaking at #7. Then Shadoe Stevens went on to mention other groups, in which this sort of thing had happened to them. Now, here is an article with a list of such groups.

  • "The Sign", 1994 (#1 for 6 weeks)

  • "I Swear", 1994 (#1 for 11 weeks)

  • "Water Runs Dry", 1995 (#2 for 1 week -- from the album "II')

SPECIAL NOTES: There are some songs that have numbers in the title, and which peaked at that same number on the chart. Examples of this include "Seventh Son" by Johnny Rivers (#7 in 1965), "1-2-3" by Len Barry (#2 for 1 week in 1965), "25 Or 6 To 4" by Chicago (#4 in 1970), "#9 Dream" by John Lennon (#9 in 1975), "One Of These Nights" by the Eagles (#1 for 1 week in 1975), "Do That To Me One More Time" by the Captain & Tennille (#1 for 1 week in 1980), "One More Night" by Phil Collins (#1 for 2 weeks in 1985), "One More Try" by George Michael (#1 for 3 weeks in 1988), "1-2-3" by Gloria Estefan & the Miami Sound Machine (#3 in 1988), "Two To Make It Right" by Seduction (#2 for 2 weeks in 1990), "One More Try" by Timmy T. (#1 for 1 week in 1991), "7" by Prince (#7 in 1993), and "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men (#1 for 16 weeks in 1995-1996). Also worthy of mention are "Double Vision" by Foreigner (#2 for 2 weeks in 1978), and "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" by Beyonce (#1 for 4 weeks in 2008).

One final note before I conclude with this article: Although the group Foreigner doesn't qualify for a group with a number in its name, it is noteworthy that Foreigner had two #4 hits, which were "Feels Like The First Time" (1977), and "Urgent" (#4 for 4 weeks, in fact in 1981 -- from the album "4").
