Musical Dice -- The Progressive Come Strategy

Written March 23, 2024

This strategy, I admit is inspired by John from Pro Craps. His strategy, called the Ladder Come Bet strategy, involves waiting until a point is established, then placing Come bets, hedging the 7 for up to three Come bets, doubling up the amounts on the second and third Come bets.

If played out this way, if the 7 comes, you'd profit exactly how much the first Come bet was. My strategy expands on this, with each successive Come bet being doubled up, but also added to by the size of the inital Come bet. For example, if you start with a $10 Come bet, the next Come bet would be $30, and the third Come bet would be $70. And depending on the size of your bankroll, you may want to consider going to an additional Come bet level, especially if the third Come bet falls to a craps roll.-

The advantage of using this progressive Come betting system is that when the 7 comes, you will make your initlal Come bet, times how many Come bets you placed. So if you did the above Come betting strategy at the $10 level, and the 7 came on the third Come bet, you'd profit $30 instead of just $10 if you did it the other way.

Some additional notes about this strategy: If a yo comes out during the course of your progressive Come betting, treat it like a 7 hit. This is because any previous Come bets that have traveled to numbers, have now been paid for. You may want to use the profits for Place bets at this point. A second note is, if a point is made during the course of your progressive Come betting, the next bet cannot be a Come bet, but a Pass Line bet, as you're now on a come-out roll. A third note is, if you're doing your progressive Come betting, and one of your earlier Come bets that's traveled to a number, has hit, you may want to make the current Come bet a little less, since the idea is to bet enough on your successive Come bets to cover the preceding Come bets, there's less to cover, when an earlier one hits. For example, if you're playing a $10 table, and your first Come bet for $10 travels to the 8, and your second Come bet, this one for $30 also travels to the 8, your third Come bet doesn't need to be $70 because your first Come bet had hit. Here, you'd only need to bet enough to cover the current Come bet that's now on the 8, plus a little extra. In this case, I'd recommend only a $50 Come bet--that is the amount of the last Come bet, plus twice the initial Come bet.

On cold tables, where there are a lot of early seven-outs, this strategy is a good way to make some profits. Also, on twbles where the rolls are longer, and have lots of repeater rolls, this strategy is also good, when those Come bets hit. In those cases, when you make more money than you invested, the extra money can be used, for example, for Place bets that can hit multiple times with just one bet.

Of course, the main disadvantages of this strategy are when the Come bets get sniped by craps rolls (2, 3, or 12), and when the 7 comes after all the Come bets had traveled to their respective numbers. But this can be a good hybrid strategy, that is, a way to transition from a dark-side strategy, when the 7 comes often, to a light-side strategy, concentrating on Place bets, after the Come bets hit.

As with any of these strategies, there is no guarantee that this will work every time. But there are more than one ways this strategy can work for you, and this is yet another weapon in your arsenal when you come to the craps table.
